Every once in a while I reflect on why I teach music. My number one reason was and always will be: the kids! Most of my students tend to be older, but there is mounting evidence that early instruction in music is beneficial to kids' I.Q's. Here's a short article on that: This is why I feel proud to be a teacher in music! It's especially cool to be a drum teacher, where the kids like to get the chance to "hit things", well before they've mastered more complicated stick movements and rhythms. According to Dr. Weber, quoted in the article linked above, "...participating in music utilizes auditory, visual and tactile inputs--all vital to cognitive processing." Awesome! We'll be keeping up the good work! Simon
